The Challenge π
THe client needed to find out if a new kind of UX pattern/architectural solution for their mobile application would benefit the users β or rather alienate their large customer base (hundreds of thousands of users).
The client wanted also to test out different visual solutions for the new application version.
Solution π οΈ
The project started by researching existing material; a usability audit had been made and its findings were a great resource for kickstarting the project. All relevant competitors were benchmarked and their user flow was deconstructed. Analytics reports and other research material was also utilized.
I constructed a couple of possible, rough UX flows and went through them with the client. I also presented some potential options for visuals (according to the clientβs branding). After hearing the relevant stakeholders β especially developers, since the solution had a technical renewal side as well β and ensuring it complied with relevant legislation, the user paths were further defined for multiple use cases. Finally, a hi-fidelity Figma prototype was constructed for user testing.
I conducted 10+ user testing sessions with 10+ participants from relevant user groups. The sessions were recorded, and their data was tagged and sorted using an AI-assisted platform. This allowed me to get concrete, valid insight quickly to help finalize the concept.
The sessions proved we were on the right track, and with the insight I was able to identify the remaining pain points and gaps in the UX. After finalizing the layouts and prototype, I produced a video of the prototype with 3D mockups and additional graphics to get internal buy-in for the concept.
In addition, the main deliverable of the concept was a 60-page PDF visualizing the ideas further and justifying the design decisions. I highlighted especially the added value for the end user and its projected business impact.
Results π₯³
The concept was presented to a few different stakeholders including PO, Design Lead and Business Lead. It received excellent feedback and birthed numerous follow-up projects at the client. The new application version is currently in final phase development and will be released during 2025.
